Ellie Davison-Archer is a fine artist based in her hometown of Amble, Northumberland and her place of study in Norwich. Inspired by natural and botanical forms, Davison-Archer is drawn to their under appreciated, delicate nature which she then depicts through a meticulous drawing style or print based medium. Davison-Archer’s practice is focused around the notion of the overlooked and our rediscovery of the familiar by challenging our perceptions of natural form. By investigating the hidden detail of found objects, she aims to obscure their visual familiarity by creating macro representations transcended through meticulous drawing and fragmented objects. The ambiguous outcomes challenge the point of origin and the act of looking, emphasising how our unique perceptions alter the image we generate. Object hierarchy and the notion of the replica are questioned through inspiration from museology and investigation, causing the work to oscillate between curiosity and scientific enquiry.

Beyond the Surface
'Beyond the Surface' is inspired by the microscopic surface found on a familiar, fallen oak leaf. Through the use of pencil, the formation of the leaf has been rediscovered and brought to the attention of the viewer - shifting the focus from the object as a whole to the detail we fail to notice at...

Forest Debris
'Forest Debris' was created as an immediate response from a collection of natural woodland finds, foraged at the beginning of an artist residency at Dumfries House. The drawing depicts a small section of discarded bark covered in microscopic lichen and moss - using this style of drawing to document...

Lost and Found
Lost and Found responds to the Found Objects theme by rediscovering the overlooked detail within a found, natural object. By focusing on a small section of a discarded feather, the pencil drawing obscures the identity of the form to encourage the act of looking and to heighten the beauty we fail to...
