Audio Obscura
"Light is to the camera obscura as sound is to audio obscura."

I make sounds / music on a computer; odd electronics for the ears not the dance floor, I try and melt the wide spectrums of electro-acoustic music, musique concrète, idm and occasionally use field recordings, with post-classical minimal leanings and a little bit of piano.

Music for the Global...
My idea for 'Scale it Up' was to attempt a bold, forward looking, cosmopolitan piece of music, a sort of soundtrack for an imaginary cafe - The Global Cafe. The narrative of the piece is a visit to 4 parts of the world, a Global Cafe branch in the respective places mentioned. I worked with 4 voice...

Eye Phone
Loved the idea of hijacking a brand and as a person who does a lot of outdoor field recording I have often had a recording spoilt by the irritation of the iphone ringtone! So what better why then to use this ringtone as the basis for a hijack! I had good fun making this.

Tropical Dream
My experience of the tropics, as a Northern European is always of the heat and noise of tropical birds and wildlife. The times I have been in tropical parts of the world, I often needed to take breaks and relax from the heat and listen to the sounds. I kept this idea in mind and went for a laid...

The Silk Road
My track 'The Silk Road' is a long track based on mood and texture, as with a lot of my musical output its built up by layering the sounds, building up sound as if paint on a canvas. But this track I didn't want to make too dense, I wanted to leave spaces here for the sounds to breath and drift. I...

Music Without Borders
This piece is an original piece of sound art, almost 'poppy', less abstract and more structured for me. It takes short-wave radio as a starting point and on top of this I build the music; the rhythms, keyboards, strings, harmony and hooks, I wanted the music to try and convey the world spinning and...

Finding 3 minutes of...
'Sometimes when you get caught up in the rush of a busy day finding 3 minutes of stillness and a calm moment can save your day.' That was the theme I worked with, to make a piece of music which seeks to find a moment when you can freeze a moment and let the calmness envelop you. This track was...

Sonorous
This is my response to the Katie Borkin piece, Ignite the Mind: Sense the Sounds. Katie's piece appears to show a sort of classical music venue, somewhere grand like the Royal Albert Hall or Royal Festival Hall in London. I looked at this picture with the solitary string player and imagined the...

The Formation of a new...
The Formation of a new Colour. January 2017 Formation was an attempt to step right back to basics, to try and create from a clear perspective, sometimes the turning of the new year can help get oneself into that mind set, where clarity and new possibilities are within reach. I started this piece...

Glitch Architecture /...
(Please listen on headphones or full speakers, computer speakers will probably not handle some of the content). The Adrian Manning piece, Glitching, (as well as the work this was 'popped' from; Paper Jam by Mark Aaron), are both works I have looked at a lot and I wanted to try and create an audio...

Suburban Train
I was inspired by Oliver Squirrell's train photo 'We built this city' - its a great image of a suburban train journey. I have been making 'field recordings' for about 5 years and I have quite a few recordings either on trains or in train stations; I love the atmospheric noises, the clanking of...
