My work explores surface, material and texture.
This is one of a series of images looking at the formation and movement of ink on paper.
The working process I use is concerned with the physical dynamics and interactions of materials: in this instance, shellac, acrylic inks and water reacting with one another on water colour paper.
This piece has been created by pouring colour onto a single point on paper and allowing it to spread organically. I use minimum intervention, letting colour, water and paper ‘do the work’. The shellac based inks react with acrylic ones to form subtle textures. Movements and changes in the paper surface also affect the final outcome. Accident and chance play an important role in the whole process.
