This is my response to the Katie Borkin piece, Ignite the Mind: Sense the Sounds. Katie's piece appears to show a sort of classical music venue, somewhere grand like the Royal Albert Hall or Royal Festival Hall in London. I looked at this picture with the solitary string player and imagined the sounds, this is what formed the idea for my piece. Therefore I started and end with Strings, I tried imagine the sound that is happening in the picture. I tried to make sounds that reflected the dark reds and pinks in this picture so I spent a long time getting the tone and timbre of the sounds I used just right. I then wrote the string sounds and edited them as midi notes. It was quite sparse so I added the middle bit, a few noises and a heavy reverbed piano sounds.
So it evolves and goes places, as if suggesting the many uses and styles of music played in these grand venues. But at its core my piece stays rooted in the post-classical musical landscape. (This track is also my submission for Niji Magazine Challenge exposure piece)
