This is a photography series not a video just wanted to pop once not five times.
The images featured in the Europe collection inspired this series of photographs by visually reminding me of skewing a perception of reality through distortion of light down a lens. The images that are abstract in nature are visual reminders of the distortion of perception whilst in contrast presented alongside this distortion is the reality captured beautifully and powerfully by the images of the refugees.
This contrast in subject and style sums up something which has been playing on my mind for a while, the distortion of reality through the news. Evidence of that distortion is the continued suffering of people who happen to have been forced into the life of refugees. Faced with these people one to one most people would and have helped, but somehow through distance, distraction and ‘news’ reporting our society is doing the bare minimum it can – Just my opinion mind.
This series of photos is a visual representation of that frustration I’m feeling with the current situation, which is heightened every time I try and have a conversation with someone and they repeat tabloid headlines to me as if they are fact or proof that we cannot trust/help them.
