The Fields is a lino cut print incorporating the beauty of the Martlesham heath and the history. The spitfire is flying over, the scenic fields. This piece is a mix of what the place has been through and what it has become. The spitfire is a reference to the history of how the airspace was used to test the early prototype of the Spitfire. The plane is flying over what Martlesham looks like today. The serenity and blissfulness of the nature today is the result of the past. In this image history is encompassed with the future which is today.
The use of lino was because of it's bold lines and illustrative feel. There is a sense of narrative and story within the work which ties in with the idea of history being told as stories. The place has many stories since it has an history, and this work is an illustration of a story from its history
