Self Portrait: Fluidity.
The Idea of fluid identity, self, and personality, are popular discussions at the moment. I recently visited the walker art gallery in Liverpool where I saw the coming out exhibition. Part of this exhibition was an installation that ranged many different artistic disciplines and included a curtain of video tape. As ever I started playing with it, the simple act of causing movement and watching it flow struck me as a powerful representation of the fluid self rather than the fixed personality. Using the images I caught and with some heavy digital editing I related them to this self portrait; which represents me enraptured by ideas and searching through thoughts. This is me when I am alone and am not being somebody [insert appropriate label] for someone else, where I just get to be.
