I find myself to be darkly fascinated by the many, many stories we are seeing in the news of well known public figures who experience downfall for some sordid reason or another.
There are the politicians who claim to be working for the good of their country. This is all very well and good, until a less-than-pleasant aspect from their private life comes crawling into the public view like a rat from the sewer, contrasting sharply against their well-crafted public utterances.
There are also the celebrities (deserving or otherwise), who have achieved fame in their chosen field, only to find even greater fame (or notoriety) for a scandal they are embroiled in that eclipses their very existence.
This poem addresses the questionable legacy that these people leave behind. The legacy that their so-called celebrity brings is all very well and good, but what of the darker side of fame that seems to be overwhelming the world at a slightly alarming pace?
